Black pine

The black pine, an evergreen tree from the pine family, is native to the coastal regions of Japan and South Korea. It is drought-tolerant and highly adaptable, and over time, its deep green needles and rugged, twisted trunk have developed a distinctive and graceful appearance. Scholars often group it with bamboo and plum as the "Three Friends of Winter," symbolizing resilience and integrity. In the poem Cold Pine by Shen Yue, a poet from Southern and Northern Dynasties, the black pine is portrayed as steadfast and strong against harsh winds and frost, inspiring people to confront challenges with unwavering determination in their pursuit of ideals and beliefs.
